Having worked in this facility for a few years and my Mom a resident there, I can say that the greatest need is for more help. For the most part, the staff are caring, compassionate people. (Many were like family). I believe most of them do the best they can with what they have. The facility is beautiful and the Activities department is great, and fully engaged. I do get the negative reviews about lights not given prompt attention, but again, not enough people to help. I do recommend this facility if you are considering a home for your loved one. HOWEVER, as I came to realize with my own Mom, (and this is key) I had to become part of the team! I checked in every day with her by phone and visited a few times a week. I made her bed when I visited if it was unmade, cleaned her room, brought her special meals and took her out occasionally. I stayed engaged in her care. I didn't leave her entire care on staff. The atmosphere is good. Family Just has to stay involved.

Summit Village is a beautiful facility, with some very caring employees. That said staff shortages are a constant problem. Emergency buttons in assisted living and call buttons in Skilled Nursing go unanswered or are answered after extended delays leaving residents without the use of the bathroom. In skilled nursing, there seems to be no routine daily care for a patient on end of life care. (While it is true that patients can decline care and meals, experienced and caring staff know how to encourage residents to accept at least what will prevent additional and unnecessary suffering. That does not seem to happen here.) The state of the resident we visit and their room is concerning. Trash, soiled incontinence products on the bed and the resident, multiple untouched meal trays and more are common. The most heart breaking is our resident whispering, “I am hungry.” with multiple untouched meal trays within reach but the ability to self-feed is no longer there and no one seemed to notice.
