What families are saying

Drake Terrace receives mostly positive reviews for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and compassionate, long-term staff. Residents and families frequently describe employees as friendly, professional, attentive, communicative, and genuinely invested in residents’ well-being. Many appreciate that staff know residents personally, recognize their preferences, and provide respectful support. The community is often characterized as clean, organized, family-like, and well maintained, with attractive gardens and pleasant common areas. Residents and visitors praise the wide range of activities, including exercise classes, games, lectures, music, theater, outings, book clubs, meditation, and social events. The convenient San Rafael location, transportation services, proximity to shopping, and welcoming resident population are also common advantages. Dining generally receives favorable comments, particularly for menu choices, flexible hours, and good-quality food, although some reviewers find meals bland or inconsistent. Apartments are considered comfortable and relatively spacious by many, though others report limited closet or kitchen space. Several reviewers also value the community’s manageable size, active social environment, and staff longevity. Concerns tend to focus on cost, aging infrastructure, and occasional service inconsistencies. One family reported inadequate weekend staffing and delayed care. More serious criticism involved memory-care limitations for residents with advanced dementia, including insufficient medical support, difficulty managing behavioral episodes, and policies requiring residents with increasing physical needs to move elsewhere. Some reviewers also mentioned an unpleasant odor, darker interiors, parking challenges, and activities that were not always as inclusive as advertised. Overall, Drake Terrace is viewed as a friendly, well-run community offering strong social programming, caring staff, and good value for many residents, but prospective families should carefully assess pricing, staffing consistency, and whether the memory-care services can accommodate future needs.

My sister has been bed bound for the past 8 months of living there. The staff have been very helpful and kind to her. They have the patience it takes to handle this job. With only about 8 residents there, it is like a family home. We are very happy that she is there.
