After a national search of retirement communities, we chose Pilgrim Place for several reasons. It had a demonstrated longtime history of welcoming and including everyone (singles and couples, people from various faith traditions or none, LGBTQ people). We also liked that Pilgrim Place feels like a neighborhood within the City of Claremont, an easy walk to hiking trails, shopping and dining in Claremont Village and the Metro Link to LA. The proximity to the Claremont Colleges campus brought access to top-notch music, art, theater and lectures--free! Finally we liked Pilgrim Place's emphasis on building community, as well as its three values to make our world a better place.

I have been living at Pilgrim Place for close to two years and could not be happier! It is an active and vibrant retirement community of caring persons dedicated to the values of justice, peace, and care of the earth. It is also in walking distance to the 5 area Claremont California colleges (which offer free concerts, speakers, and courses) and the downtown Claremont village with cafes, movie theater, weekly open street market, etc. Numerous progressive faith communities and grocery stores are within a short driving or cycling distance. And Claremont is in close driving and public transportation vicinity to the many attractions of Los Angeles and Southern California, including its warm weather, beautiful foliage, and cultural attractions.

I love living at Pilgrim Place because residents share common values of peace, justice, and care for the earth. This is a very active retirement community where we continue to work to build a better, kinder world. The noon meal brings everyone together for delicious food and fascinating conversations. The resident-led educational forums and musical programs are ideal for life-long learning. The Art Center provides space where I can pursue artistic endeavors that there wasn't time for when working full-time. I'm grateful that I retired at Pilgrim Place in my 60's soon after retiring so that I can be a part of the countless opportunities offered at Pilgrim Place, the nearby Claremont Colleges, and the charming downtown Claremont Village. Having LA and Pasadena within driving distance means that world-class museums, concerts, and special events are all accessible. As a PP resident there is so much to do, see, learn, and enjoy. This is a remark intellectual and intentional community.

As residents, we feel compelled to continue participating in the good work of making this a better world. I'm also grateful that I entered the community in my 60's so that I can enjoy all of the opportunities offered at Pilgrim Place, the nearby Claremont Colleges, and the charming Claremont Village, including shops, restaurants, and events.
