Christwood - "The Northshore's Premier Retirement Community" In the early 1980s, with the rapid growth on the Northshore, it became evident that there was a need to have a retirement community for seniors in the area. Many of the area's residents who pioneered the commuting style of life were now looking for retirement options. Because there were few alternatives that would allow these residents to remain part of the Northshore community, in 1989, Father Steve Holzhalb, then Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, envisioned Christwood. He recruited Jack Lohman as Executive Director and with the support of the Church's Vestry, they began to explore the feasibility of establishing a retirement community in Covington, LA. The result is Christwood "The Northshore's Premier Retirement Community."
Christwood, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), opened its doors to its first residents in May of 1996. As a leader in senior living on the Northshore, Christwood continues to explore the newest approaches to provide a vibrant, active and fulfilling lifestyle for independent seniors. Governed by a Board of Directors of community leaders from a variety of backgrounds, Christwood also receives management consulting services from Life Care Services (LCS). LCS has been actively involved in the planning, development and management of over 130 senior resident communities throughout America.
