Franke at Seaside is a full-service retirement community of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina providing retirement options for active lifestyle living, assisted living, specialized care for those with memory impairment and healthcare and rehabilitation services. Lutheran Homes also operates Lutheran Hospice programs in the Upstate, the Midlands and the Lowcountry, and BeWell Home Services, a non-medical home care program.
Franke at Seaside is located minutes away from beautiful beaches and the historic city of Charleston, SC. In addition, Franke is a part of the Seaside Farms planned residential and retail development, offering a broad range of shops, restaurants and many other amenities within walking distance of our campus.Franke at Seaside, a ministry of the Lutheran Church, traces its beginnings to the evangelical Lutheran Charities Society ofCharleston, when it was first founded in 1892 on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston. In 1908 the Evangelical Lutheran Charities Society, now known as Lutheran Homes of S.C, Inc., purchased and renovated the Adger family home and soon the Jacob Washington Franke Home welcomed its first guests. Since that time, the church’s ministry has grown by a hundredfold, providing a broad continuum of care as well as innovative wellness programs and services.
In 1996 the Franke Home moved to its current location – a 42 acre tract within the Seaside Farms planned development in the beautiful town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The new campus initially consisted of Independent Living rental apartments as well as assisted living and memory care residences. In July 2000 Franke at Seaside expanded their facilities to include the Keil Health Care Center, offering private and semi-private suites for skilled nursing and rehabilitation.
In 2002, by action of the local advisory board, the Franke Home became known as “Franke at Seaside,” a name reflective of the community’s proximity to the nearby barrier islands and beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. Moreover, the new name represented a new facet to Lutheran Homes’ overall mission – a commitment to serve the growing demographic of “new retirees” of the 21st century – the active adult.
Later that year, Franke at Seaside broke ground on its state-of-the-art Active Lifestyle Community, an independent neighborhood of patio homes and apartment residences anchored by the 24,000 square foot Burges Center, the center of the community and focal point for entertainment, dining and comprehensive wellness programs
