The reviews for Veranda and Victoria House present a mixed picture. Some reviewers praise Veranda for its friendly staff, beautiful facility, and engaging activities, likening it to a college dorm for seniors. They commend the quality of care, delicious food, and the sense of community, with some residents expressing long-term satisfaction. Staff members also highlight a positive work environment and strong relationships with residents. Conversely, other reviews are highly critical, citing issues such as poor management, understaffing, and neglect, particularly in assisted living. Complaints include long response times to calls for help, inadequate care for residents with mobility issues, and high costs for additional care. Some reviewers report theft, poor food quality, and a lack of activities for assisted living residents. There are also allegations of insensitivity during the pandemic and accusations of management prioritizing profits over resident care. Victoria House receives positive feedback for its clean facility, caring staff, and well-laid-out dementia ward. However, there are also negative reviews, with one mentioning rude staff and delayed medication administration. Overall, while some residents and staff have positive experiences, significant concerns about care quality, management practices, and staff behavior are raised, suggesting a need for improvements in certain areas.

Such a disappointment. First they lie to get you to leave your parent in their care and then as soon as your parent requires any level of effort they want them gone. They said they were the only facility in Pensacola with the licensure to allow someone to age in place and provide the highest level of care. Not only do they not have that particular licensure, they can’t keep their staff. Many many times there has only been one person on a whole floor to care for over 100 old people. While there are certainly some very sweet people working there, there are an equal number of highly impatient staff who act put out if they are called for assistance. The food is downright terrible on the Assisted Living floor. It is often cold and gives my parent constant diarrhea. The sales department claims they have a 3 minute call response time, when in fact it is closer to 30 minutes. Much like the other reviewer, I am now hearing that several other people have moved out recently.

The Veranda told us our family member could live here “age in place” with a level of service appropriate for dementia unless they became bedridden or wandered (tried to escape) in a way that was dangerous. Their commitment to my family was not kept and our loved one was forced to leave despite the advice of the physician and despite they were neither bedridden or trying to wander out of the facility. I have learned from two other families the sales pitch was the same. One of the families were just forced to move their loved ones out despite not meeting the criteria for skilled nursing care. I firmly believe they could have fulfilled their commitment but were unwilling and understaffed to do so. I don’t recommend this facility for a loved one with dementia. They misrepresented themselves and finally forced my love one to leave despite the progress made and advice of her physician. In their month of residence there I found on two occasions her clean clothes depleted and not properly assisted with daily living. They are more appropriate for independent living and should not be allowed to provide assisted living services. To be fair I must admit there are lovely people who work there and the food and facilities are top notch.
