Sunrise Senior Living

Founded in 1981, Sunrise Senior Living has offered assisted living, memory, respite, and skilled nursing care based on Dutch principles for the last 45 years. Founders Paul and Terry Klaassen were both influenced by their family experiences with caring for older adults which inspired them to pioneer a new approach to senior living. The couple established their first community in Virginia, growing to eventually offer a variety of services across the country. CEO Jack Callison holds over 15 years of senior living expertise and has led Sunrise to be certified as a Great Place to Work in 2023-2024.

Sunrise Senior Living customizes its approach to each resident's needs and preferences, and curates its Sunrise Live With Purpose™ programming to provide opportunities for all personalities and interests. From Live with Artistry classes to Live with Learning, Sunrise residents have the chance to pursue the subjects that have always intrigued them. Older adults are encouraged to bring their pets when they move into Sunrise communities, and most Sunrise communities have their own cat or dog whose companionship all residents can enjoy. Sunrise utilizes an electronic health record system that allows community caregivers, doctors, pharmacists, and therapists to coordinate care for residents. This technology can also send updates to family members about their loved one's health. Similarly forward-thinking are Sunrise's efforts towards energy efficiency. 30 Sunrise communities have been recognized by the EPA as ENERGY STAR certified in the senior facilities category. Sunrise continues to strengthen its dedication to environmental stewardship alongside its mission to "champion quality of life for all seniors."
