"An absolute nightmare and I would not recommend to anyone whose loved one needs memory care and has issues with daily living tasks like toileting. My mother stayed there from November 2021 until February 2023. We were promised the world when given a tour - the best food, best care, night motion detectors in case they get up at night, call button watches in case they need help, the works! Everything ended up being a catastrophic failure which was a combination of lack of empathy staff turnover, overpromising, and lack of problem solving from upper management. Food portions were really small if you didnt make it to the dining room, and if you didnt the food would be left alone in the room despite my Mom not being able to feed herself appropriately. 2-3 hours to answer the call buttons on her wrist watch or bathroom wall. Medication reconciliation issues galore. Motion night detectors were never a thing. I cant express how sad I felt seeing my mom there" - Shawn…

"What a wonderful experience we had at this lovely place! The atmosphere is so warm and inviting—it really feels luxurious, and you can tell the tenants are happy. The staff is incredibly friendly and professional, which made our visit all the more enjoyable. Our tour guide, Emily Waxenfelter, was just fantastic! She was not only charming but also truly passionate about her work. From our very first phone call to set up the tour, she made sure we had all the details we needed. I mentioned that my father is a veteran, and Emily went above and beyond to provide tailored information that would meet his needs. My father had an amazing first experience, and it really set a high standard for our search for a new home. I’m grateful to Artis for making this such a positive outing for us! If we decide to make the move, I’d be more than happy to share another review. Thanks for reading, everyone!" - Jill…

"Not the best. Always a high turnover in staff. My Mom and other patients wait forever to order their food and then even longer to get it and get the correct order. The staff pretends to be friendly but beneath that phony exterior they just want to get the heck out of there as soon as possible. It's just a job to them. I'm told they blame "corporate" for everything. What does "corporate" know about Illinois when they're located in Colorado. If you want your parent's freedom taken away and be told what to do like little children than this is for them." - R…

"NEGATIVE STARS. You will be told the Clare is one of the nicer facilities and it may be true for the nursing home portion however I have nothing nice to say regarding their rehab center. I met Amy the case manager to tour the facility and discuss what my mother had been through and the level of care she required. I was told the Clare was more than capable of handling her needs however that was a blatant lie. This is NOT an adequate rehabilitation facility for post hospitalization patients. The staff is under trained, under qualified and under staffed. I was incredibly clear on my mothers condition and the level of patience and care needed to keep her comfortable. Not only did they not respect our wishes; they did the exact opposite. They bullied my mother and when she asked them to please be more gentle with her and to stop hurting her she was told if she didn't like their treatment she could go back to the hospital. They also told her she needed to leave because they were i" - Lauren…

Montgomery Place Retirement Community

From $3,960/mo

8.9
5550 South Shore Drive, Chicago, IL, 60637
Assisted Living, Memory Care, Independent Living, Skilled Nursing Facility, Continuing Care Retirement Community

We understand that choosing a senior living community is one of the most important decisions you can make for yourself or a loved one. At Montgomery Place, our vision has always been to provide seniors with a welcoming, comfortable, and enriching place to call home. Here, our residents, their families, and our staff are all integral parts of our caring and compassionate community. For more than three decades, Montgomery Place has been counted among the best senior living communities in Chicago. Located in the heart of Hyde Park, our lakeside community serves as a beautiful setting for residents to make memories, build lasting friendships, and experience the best of life. At the heart of the Montgomery Place mission is a dedication to enhancing the quality of life of every member of our diverse and inclusive community. We believe that when each individual's social, intellectual, physical, cognitive, and social needs are met, a truly authentic joy and sense of contentment can be found. Here, our five core values serve as our guiding force: integrity, dignity, engagement, caring, and quality. With a firm belief that the wonders of the city of Chicago can uniquely contribute to the health and healing of the mind, body, and spirit, Montgomery Place takes great pride in making a difference in the lives of our residents and the community as a whole. Today's modern senior living communities offer a wide range of benefits, serving as a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy a full and happy life. In an independent or assisted living community, seniors are provided with many opportunities for social interaction, enrichment, and more, encouraging a productive lifestyle that supports both their physical and mental well-being. For many seniors and their loved ones, one of the biggest benefits of assisted living or independent living is the focus on health and safety. Both their advanced age and living alone can put a senior at risk for accidents, injuries, medical emergencies, disasters, and even crime. However, in a senior community, safety and security is typically a top priority. The communities are designed with seniors in mind, incorporating accessibility and mobility features, medical alert systems, added security, medical staff, and more. As we age, making meaningful social connections can often be difficult, and loneliness for seniors is a common cause of depression and other serious issues. Even with friends and family nearby, seniors can begin to feel isolated in their homes. In an assisted living facility or independent living community, seniors can stay socially engaged with a variety of activities. Communal meals, art and music classes, group outings, fitness sessions, happy hours, and other social events provide the social interaction that is so vital to age happily. For many seniors, living independently is a burden that comes with worries of home repairs, housekeeping, laundry, and transportation. Even daily tasks and personal care can become frustrating, making day-to-day extremely difficult. At an assisted or independent living community, there is a support staff there to provide peace of mind in every way. From everyday chores and property maintenance to grocery shopping and personal care routines, it can all be left to a professional - giving your senior loved one more time to enjoy the present. Located in Hyde Park, this property offers all levels of care and several different payment options. It is a longstanding community right on the lake. Lots of activities and outings for all levels of care. We have a lot of shared spaces and restaurant-style dining, as well as a pool. Very nice option, great to start independently here.…
